This is the Seoul that appears in every K-drama chase scene and luxury brand lookbook. The morning starts at COEX — Asia's largest underground shopping complex — with a stop at the 13-metre-high Starfield Library whose bookshelves became the most-reproduced Instagram image in Korea two years running.

After lunch near the Bongeunsa Temple courtyard (1,200-year-old temple, completely calm, 30 seconds from a Michelin-starred restaurant), the afternoon moves to Apgujeong's flagship boutique strip, the K-Star Road celebrity handprints, and the glittering Cheongdam fashion district.

Two hours north of Seoul, the world changes completely. Nami Island — a half-moon islet in the Bukhangang River — became famous as the filming location for Winter Sonata and has since grown into Korea's most romantic day-trip. The ferry crossing takes four minutes, and the tree-lined avenues are extraordinary in every season.

The Korean Demilitarized Zone is the world's most heavily fortified border — a 4km-wide strip of land that has been frozen in time since 1953. One hour north of Seoul, it is also one of the most extraordinary places you can visit in Asia, and doing it in your own private van means no rushing, no headset tours and no forty-person groups at the tunnel entrance.

Start at N Seoul Tower as the sun sets over the Han River (the cable car or the winding road — your choice), then drive down to Banpo Bridge for the Rainbow Fountain show that runs on the half-hour. End in Myeongdong's pedestrian street food carnival or the younger energy of Hongdae.
